This work explores the relationship between natural elements and public monuments, observing several monoliths set up in the square in front of the Lombardy Region Palace in Milan. These blocks of rock were crafted to resemble an ideal of wild nature, recalling the outlines of mountains. Their purpose, in fact, is to represent the Lombardy Alps and enhance their natural beauty.


A stereotypical representation of the mountainous territory, conceived as a spectacular place where wild nature reigns. A representation of the territory that overlaps with the promotion of a product. The monoliths were set up by the company that created the paving of the square, and in addition to the open-air display of their products, the various processing techniques are also demonstrated.


The focus is on the display method of these elements, highlighting their artificiality and spectacular nature. In the foreground, we find the concrete bases, the bollards, and the nighttime lighting.









				
			
		
	

















	
		
		
	
	
		
			
				
					
						
Questo lavoro indaga la relazione fra elemento naturale e monumento pubblico, osservando
alcuni monoliti allestiti nella piazza di fronte al Palazzo della Regione Lombardia a Milano. Si
tratta di alcuni blocchi di roccia lavorati per farli assomigliare a un’ideale di natura selvaggia
che richiamano i profili delle montagne. La loro funzione infatti è quella di rappresentare le
Alpi Lombarde e di esaltarne la bellezza naturalistica.

						
Una rappresentazione stereotipata del territorio montano, concepito come un luogo
spettacolare in cui regna la natura selvaggia. Un rappresentazione del territorio che si
sovrappone alla promozione di un prodotto. I monoliti infatti sono stati allestiti dall’azienda
che ha realizzato la pavimentazione della piazza e oltre all’esposizione a cielo aperto dei loro
prodotti, vengono mostrate anche le diverse tecniche di lavorazione.

						
L’attenzione si concentra sulla modalità espositiva di questi elementi e ne evidenzia la loro
artificialità e spettacolarizzazione. In primo piano troviamo infatti le basi di cemento, i
dissuasori e i fari per l’illuminazione notturna.

In collaboration with the wind and the natural diffusion of poplar inflorescences, this work was carried out in the disused industrial area of the former Falk steelworks. The land, polluted and exhausted by the steel industry, was slowly repopulated by poplars, which now coexist with the industrial ruins. The wind is the main director of this action which becomes a sort of collaboration with the landscape, which enters the camera lens with its volatility. The Pappi are staged, dropped into what becomes a snowstorm. 
The result is imperfect documentation, an imprecise portrait of the territory. An attempt to question the hegemony of the human being and underline the importance of having undetermined spaces, neither in form nor in function, in which life can self-determine.

In collaborazione con il vento e la naturale diffusione delle infiorescenze di pioppo, questo lavoro è stato realizzato nell’area industriale dismessa delle ex acciaierie Falk. Il terreno, inquinato ed esaurito dall’attività siderurgica, è stato lentamente ripopolato da pioppi, che ora convivono con i ruderi industriali. Il vento è il regista principale di questa azione che diventa una sorta di collaborazione con il paesaggio, che entra nell’obiettivo della macchina fotografica con la sua volatilità. I Pappi vengono messi in scena, lasciati cadere in quella che diventa una tempesta di neve. 
Il risultato è una documentazione imperfetta, un ritratto impreciso del territorio. Un tentativo di mettere in discussione l’egemonia dell’essere umano e sottolineare l’importanza di disporre di spazi non determinati, né nella forma né nella funzione, in cui la vita possa autodeterminarsi.

installation view at Artopia gallery, MilanThe installation reflects on the approval of raw materials and is made with two materials: phenolic plywood and Judas tree flowers, collected at the edges of the sidewalks, dried and pulverized. Two very different materials that reflect on two processes: the first extractive and industrial, the second foraging, cyclical and free.





L’installazione riflette sull’approvvigionamento delle materie prime ed è realizzata con due materiali: del compensato fenolico e dai fiori dell’albero di giuda, raccolti ai bordi dei marciapiedi, essicati e polverizzati.&#38;nbsp;Due materiali molto diversi che rilfettono su due processi: il primo estrattivo ed industriale, il secondo, di foraggiamento, ciclico e gratuito.&#38;nbsp;

Ecology and visual representation,&#38;nbsp; 2022editorial project, pubblication, 97 pp.




What are the relationships between ecology 
and communication?&#38;nbsp;What is the role of moving images in creating ecological awareness? This text investigates the intersections between environmentalism and communication with the aim of articulating a complex theme such as ecology and rethinking it in relation to the media in order to inquire into the limits and contradictions of their role as creators of a collective consciousness. The research path revisits and updates concepts such as ecopornograpy (Jarry Mander, 1972) and pornoecology (La Cecla 1992) and investigates how environmental issues are approached by social media and dominant narratives. In fact, one of the aims is to develop a critical perspective that is able to deconstruct mainstream and instrumentalised environmentalist rhetoric and to issue a warning about the addictive processes involved in the media. 















Quali sono le relazioni fra ecologia 
e comunicazione ?&#38;nbsp;
Qual’è il ruolo delle immagini nel creare una consapevolezza ecologica ? In questo testo si è cercato di individuare le intersezioni fra ambientalismo e comunicazione con l’obiettivo di articolare un tema complesso come quello dell’ecologia e di ripensarlo in relazione con i media per indagarne i limiti e le contraddizioni del loro ruolo di creatori di una consapevolezza collettiva. Il percorso di ricerca riprende ed attualizza concetti come ecopornograpy (Jarry Mander, 1972) e pornoecologia (La Cecla 1992) ed indaga come le tematiche ambientaliste vengono affrontate dai social media e dalle narrative dominanti. 

Uno degli obiettivi infatti è proprio quello di sviluppare uno sguardo critico che sia in grado di decostruire la retorica ambientalista mainstream e strumentalizzata e di mettere in guardia riguardo ai processi di assuefazione che i media comportano.

This work was developed during the residency at Mustarinda, located in Hyrinsalmi in Finland. Characterized by a strong ecological orientation, it is a residence in which one is not obliged to produce something and this condition offers the opportunity to slow down and observe things from a different perspective. A space that legitimizes a break, an opportunity to reflect on the production itself and on one’s working method.


What does it mean to produce within the contemporary art system and what are our working tools? What production rhythms must we follow to be efficient?


Following these reflections, an ephemeral installation was developed in which the image of a work area is projected onto a portion of the snowy landscape. An absurd and unproductive encounter. Performance anxiety is exorcised by contemplating the distortion of the image of the work device par excellence: the desktop of one’s PC.


















Questo lavoro è stato realizzato durante la residenza presso Mustarinda, situata ad Hyrinsalmi in Finlandia. Caratterizzata da un forte orientamento ecologico, si tratta di una residenza in cui non si è obbligati a produrre qualcosa e questa condizione offre l’occasione di rallentare e di osservare le cose da una prospettiva diversa. Uno spazio che legittima una pausa, un’occasione per riflettere riguardo alla produzione stessa e al proprio metodo di lavoro.


Che cosa significa produrre all’interno del sistema dell’arte contemporanea e quali sono i nostri strumenti di lavoro ? Quali ritmi di produzione dobbiamo seguire per risultare efficenti ? 


In seguito a queste riflessioni è stata sviluppata un’installazione effimera in cui l’immagine di un’area di lavoro viene proiettata su una porzione di paesaggio innevato. Un incontro assurdo e improduttivo. L’ansia da prestazione viene esorcizzata contemplando la distorsione dell’immagine del dispositivo di lavoro per eccellenza: il desktop del proprio pc.

The work develops in a rhythm set by fragments of videos found on the web. The subject is a flowing, expanding stream of smoke. Images of Siberian forest fires alternate with video clips of youtubers entertaining their audience by nebulising dry ice; tests of scenic smoke machines alternate with the tear gas used by the police to suppress demonstrations in Hong Kong. These associations are intended to provoke reflections about the mass media's use of catastrophic images and the empathy they arouse in the viewer. In the mass media representation, the environmental crisis is spectacularised, limiting itself to the striking surface of the disaster and is not addressed in its complexity. Even the struggles on the front line are denied a context that can convey their deeper meaning. The continuous flow of information, of images, the insistence of advertisements create in the users an addiction to the image, in which nothing is surprising anymore. The boundary between the field of information and entertainment is becoming increasingly blurred. The analogy between the blurring of visibility due to smoke and the difficulty of understanding the complexity of the documented event is an attempt to question the relationship between visual information and the understanding of an event.



	
		
		
	
	
		
			
				
					
						
Il lavoro si sviluppa in un ritmo scandito da frammenti di video recuperati dal web. Il
soggetto è un flusso fumogeno che scorre e si espande. Le immagini degli incendi delle
foreste siberiane si alternano a video clip di youtuber che intrattengono il loro pubblico
nebulizzando il ghiaccio secco; test di macchine del fumo scenografiche si alternano ai
lacrimogeni utilizzati dalla polizia per reprimere le manifestazioni ad Hong Kong. Queste
associazioni sono finalizzate a muovere delle riflessioni riguardo all’utilizzo di immagini
catastrofiche da parte dei mass media e riguardo all’empatia che queste suscitano
nell’osservatore. Nella rappresentazione mass mediatica la crisi ambientale viene
spettacolarizzata, limitandosi alla superficie eclatante del disastro e non viene affrontata
nella sua complessità. Anche le lotte in prima linea vengono private di un contesto che sia
in grado di trasmettere il loro significato più profondo. Il flusso continuo di informazioni, di
immagini, l’insistenza di pubblicità creano negli utenti un assuefazione all’immagine, in cui
oramai non sorprende più nulla. Il confine fra il campo dell’informazione e
dell’intrattenimento si fa sempre più sfumato. L’analogia fra l’offuscamento della visibilità
dovuta al fumo e la difficoltà di comprendere la complessità dell’evento documentato è un
tentativo di mettere in discussione il rapporto fra informazione visiva e comprensione di un

What is the line between nature and culture?
What is meant by landscape ? The design of a natural environment, the domination of man over nature, the illusion of total technical control and the unpredictability with which the environment transforms itself are the main themes addressed during the dolomiticontemporanee residency at Borca di Cadore. This experience gave shape to this publication, produced as if it were a collage of different types of texts, combining newspaper articles, geological analyses, architectural catalogues and archive photographs. The volume investigates the instability of the landscape, starting from the small scale of the local context of Borca and expanding to the context of the 1960s, using an approach that is&#38;nbsp;not scientific but arbitrary, contradictory, inconstant and fragmentary.





Qual’è il confine fra natura e cultura ? Che cosa si intende per paesaggio ? La progettazione di un ambiente naturale, il dominio dell’uomo sulla natura, l’illusione del controllo tecnico totale e l’imprevedibilità con cui l’ambiente trasforma se stesso sono le principali tematiche affrontate durante la residenza dolomiticontemporanee presso Borca di Cadore. Da questa esperienza nasce questa pubblicazione, realizzata come se fosse una sorta di collages di diverse tipologie di testi, accostando articoli di giornale, analisi geologiche, cataloghi d’architettura e fotografie d'archivio. Il volume indaga l’instabilità del paesaggio, partendo dalla scala ridotta del contesto locale di Borca ed ampliandosi fino al contesto degli anni sessanta, utilizzando un approccio non&#38;nbsp;scientifico ma arbitrario, contraddittorio, incostante e frammentario.

	Whose green ?turfgrass transplantation,

The intervention consists of transplanting a portion of a green from a Private Club golf course to a public park. The term green refers to the most accurate area of turf, where the hole is located. The golf course is based on a concept of nature that reflects the dominant ideology of control, order and cleanliness. The landscape is taken to the extreme in its "ultra-natural" perfection and is a social space reserved for an elite. In this case, the green is not something "natural" but is the result of technical virtuosity: the selection of seeds, the fertilizers, the fungicides, the irrigation system. There is a relationship between bio-vegetal control (the perfection of the lawn) and social selection (the Private Club is only for those who can afford it economically). Through displacement within a playground, the portion of the lawn becomes an extraneous element, subject to the imagination of children who reinvent this surface, keeping the original play function in the background but completely altering its functionality. 


L’intervento consiste in un trapianto di una porzione di green da un campo da golf di un Club Privato ad un parco pubblico. Con il termine green si indica la zona più accurata del tappeto erboso, dove si trova la buca. Il campo da golf si basa su un concetto di natura che riflette l’ideologia dominante di controllo, ordine e pulizia. Il paesaggio viene portato all’estremo nella sua perfezione “ultra-naturale” ed è uno spazio sociale riservato ad un élite. In questo caso il green non è qualcosa di “naturale” ma è il risultato di un virtuosismo tecnico: la selezione delle sementi, i fertilizzanti, i funghicidi, l’impianto di irrigazione. C’è una relazione fra controllo bio-vegetale (la perfezione del prato) e selezione sociale (il Club Privato è solamente per chi può permetterselo economicamente). Grazie allo spostamento all’interno di un parco giochi la porzione di prato diventa un elemento estraneo, soggetto alla fantasia dei bambini che reinventa questa superficie, mantenendo nello sfondo la funzione ludica originale ma alterando completamente la sua funzionalità.

The project grew out of the need to articulate the complexity of what we call 'landscape'. During the progettoborca residency in the ex&#38;nbsp;
ENI Village in Borca di Cadore, I developed a research on the territory, understood as a
result of long-term co-evolutionary processes between human settlement and
environment. The ex ENI Village offers an emblematic case where it is impossible to
to establish the boundary between urban design and natural dynamics. Imitating this process, an installation was created within the detrital cone 
adjacent to the Village. It consists of a line of pulverised acacia leaves stretched along a gravelly ridge within the debris cone. An ambiguous image produced by the encounter of two cases of planning natural dynamics: the artistic intervention and the maintenance of the debris cone by the
civil protection. The aim is to break down the conception of a humanity superior and opposed to nature, to highlight the relational aspect of the context in which we live and to emphasise the limits - and the inevitable failure - of implementing an ecological turn limited to the environmental level.
The photographic documentation summarises the complexity of the project and remain as the only evidence of the installation, which disappeared within a few hours.Il progetto nasce dall’esigenza di articolare la complessità di quello che
chiamiamo “paesaggio”. Durante la residenza progettoborca nell’ex Villaggio
ENI a Borca di Cadore ho sviluppato una ricerca sul territorio, inteso come
risultato di processi co-evolutivi di lunga durata fra insediamento umano e
ambiente. L’ex Villaggio ENI offre un caso esemplare dove è impossibile
stabilire il confine fra progetto urbano e dinamiche naturali. Imitando questo
processo è stata realizzata un’installazione all’interno del conoide detritico
adiacente al Villaggio. Si tratta di una linea di foglie di acacia polverizzate,
distese lungo un crinale ghiaioso all’interno della sassaia. Un’immagine
ambigua prodotta dall’incontro di due casi di progettazione delle dinamiche
naturali: l’intervento artistico e la manutenzione del conoide detritico da parte
della protezione civile. L’obbiettivo è quello di abbattere la concezione di un’umanità superiore ed opposta alla natura, evidenziare il carattere
relazionale del contesto in cui viviamo e di sottolineare i limiti – e l’inevitabile
fallimento – di attuare una svolta ecologica limitata al piano ambientale.La documentazione fotografica sintetizza la complessità del progetto e rimane
come unica prova dell’installazione, sparita nel giro di poche ore.
